■ About the University
With a long history and a rich cultural background, Bath Spa University (BSU) dates back to Bath Academy of Art more than 160 years ago, which was one of the most famous art schools in the UK at the time and has cultivated a large number of famous British artists. Currently, BSU is the only university in the UK to receive the “Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning” (CETL) in “Creativity and Art” and “Business and Employability”. It ranks 20th in the “Quality of Education” ranking of UK universities, and has received financial support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England as the “Center for Celebration of Teaching and Learning” of the UK’s innovation industry.
The School of Music at BSU ranks tenth among all similar institutions in the UK. World-famous Sir Michael Tippet has taught there. In the UK’s latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), BSU’s research in music, communications, culture, media studies, art and design, history and English is rated as a four-star “world leader”. Its School of Humanities and Cultural Industries is known in the industry as the base of “Best Creative Writing Project in England”.
■ About Bath
Located in the southwest of England, about 100 miles from London, Bath is known as one of the most beautiful and elegant cities in the UK, with some of the finest streets and the most beautiful buildings. It is the only city in the UK included in the world cultural heritage.
From March to October every year is the best time to visit Bath. During this period, the weather is refreshing and pleasant, and many local traditional festivals would be held. Especially at the Bath International Music Festival held in June every year, world-class musicians would be invited to host orchestra chorus concerts, solo concerts and chamber music performances.
The City of Bath undertakes 17 different festivals each year, many of which are held at BSU’s concert halls and theaters. Students at BSU are the main participants in these large and small festivals.
