Introduction

Founded in 2004, International College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies(GDUFS) is one of the first six training bases for overseas study approved by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC and the only one of its kind located in South China.Students who acquire the opportunity to study abroad through International College of GDUFS may receive international education verification service from CSCSE.

Based on the quality education resources and first-class foreign language training faculty of GDUFS and drawing on internationally advanced teaching methods,all of our courses are taught by outstanding teachers from GDUFS or overseas partner universities. In the past 14 years, we have trained more than 7,000 students for overseas educational institutions. With that experience, we are now the largest training service provider for overseas study in China with the longest history, the most standard teaching management, and the most developed educational cooperation programs. We are also a famous training brand for overseas study in South China and we enjoy a good reputation.

We provide undergraduate and graduate students a wide range of training programs in cooperation with over 30 universities and colleges in Britain, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, etc.

Since our foundation, we have adhered to the idea that all of our staff should be dedicated to teaching and training. College leaders also give lectures or serve as instructor or supervisor of a certain class. Each class is supervised by both an instructor and an academic supervisor. Besides, each student dormitory building has an instructor living in itin order to serve students or efficiently response to emergency.LIN Guoheng, a student of the class of 2013, was awarded as the “Excellent Student Leader of Guangdong Province”.

Timeline

March2004

International College was established on the basis of international exchange programs of Faculty of English Language and Culture, School of English for International Business, former College of International Cultural Exchange , and College of Continuing Education. It shares the same faculty with the formerTraining Center for Overseas Studies Candidates (currently Study Abroad Training Center), and is dedicated to train students to study abroad and international education.

September2004

International College offered joint programs with Lancaster University, Coventry University, University of Central Lancashire, University of Portsmouth and University of Westminster, and enrolled 493 students, beginning its journey as a pioneer of study abroad training.

July2005

Zhang Dejiang, then Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, inspected International College in the accompany of GDUFS leadership. Zhang Dejiang affirmed the development ideas and management methods of the college and expressed his expectation of its development results.

June2006

The first batch of 406 students graduated and would soon further their studies in partner universities. The college summed up its experience and clarified its goal of student training: to cultivate international talents who have international vision, understand international rules, can directly participate in international cooperation and competition, and have sense of social responsibility.

May2007

International College is the only training base for overseas study in South China jointly built by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Chinese Service Center for Scholar Exchange (CSCSE, the only official institution in China that certifies foreign degrees and qualifications) of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the PRC. Under professional guidance and assistance, it has embarked on the road of standardized development.

September2008

International College set up a teaching base in the south campus of GDUFS, and sent 363 freshmen, teachers and management personnel there, further expanding the scale of schooling.

December2008

International College successfully hosted the first annual meeting of CSCSE Study Abroad Training Centers. CSCSE summarized its training centers’ experience in project operation, and was dedicated to build four models for four overseas study training base, including Study Abroad Training Center of International College of GDUFS.

September2009

International College embraced 26 associated foreign universities and enrolled 936 freshmen, both reaching a record high. Its methods and quality of school running has received good social response, and its social influence was further expanded.

June2010

International College held the 1st International Conference on Internationalization of Higher Education. While expanding educational scale and improving educational quality, the college conducts professional seminars and exchanges on international education and overseas study training to enhance its brand identity and professionalism.

December2011

Yu Jihai, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of MOE, Xu Peixiang, Director of International Affairs Division of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of MOE, and Cheng Jiacai, Deputy Director of Chinese Service Center for Scholar Exchange of MOE, visited International College and appreciated its outstanding achievements since its inception.

June2012

International College held the 2nd International Conference on Internationalization of Higher Education, which witnessed discussions and explorations on strengthening and improving internationalized curriculum and teaching reform of higher education. Its education methods were further improved and level of international cooperation and exchanges was further enhanced.

May2013

MOE’s Training and Research Center for Overseas Studies was set up at International College of GDUFS. International College’s professionalism of overseas study training was further affirmed and recognized by MOE. The college has become the frontier and backbone of MOE to undertake overseas study training and pre-departure training.

June2014

International College conducted promotion with a new internationalized emblem and fully enhanced its brand image as the largest study overseas training center with the longest history, the most standardized teaching management, and the most mature cooperation programs, opening a new stage for building itself into a first-class training base.

International College has established friendly and cooperative relations with 33 universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada. Currently, it offers various forms of study abroad training programs covering 108 majors. In the past 14 years, it has cultivated 7,706 international students. Its school-running methods and quality of education have been widely recognized by students, parents, partner universities, similar entities and institutions, and employers.
