In order to fully implement the “Action Plan for Studying Abroad in 2018”, complete the pre-trip training of studying abroad in 2017 with quality and quantity, and help the overseas personnel to study safely and healthily, according to the the Ministry of Education on strengthening the pre-trip training of “achieving in safety education for studying abroad in 2017”, implementing the spirit of the National Conference on Overseas Study and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of overseas personnel, the 2017 South China “Studying Abroad Safely” Training Meeting was held on May 22. The meeting was held in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), hosted by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and sponsored by China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE). Jiao Fangtai, Vice-President of GDUFS, Zhong Luojun, Party Branch Secretary of the International College, Yang Wenhui, Director of the Center for Foreign Language Training, He Yan, Special Teacher of Psychological Support System for Overseas Personnel of Tsinghua University and Peking University, Professor Chen Jiaxu of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Liang Manqing of Guangzhou Service Center for Overseas Personnel, and security experts from Safety Training Center for Overseas Personnel all attended the meeting.
Address by Vice President Jiao Fangtai
Jiao Fangtai attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, pointing out that “the main purpose of this training meeting is to help overseas personnel improve the ability of self-defense, enhance security awareness and enhance emergency response in view of the current international turbulence and various problems.” He hoped that all the students will listen carefully to the relevant lectures and benefit from the training.
According to the arrangement of the CSCSE, the Center for Foreign Language Training of GDUFS is responsible for three pre-trip training sessions in the first half and the second half of 2017 in South China. In April, the Center undertook the pre-trip training and promotion work at Guangzhou Station, and carried out relevant reports in Guangzhou Daily and Guangdong Radio and Television’s news channel, which attracted the attention of many parents. Therefore, parents of self-funded overseas students were invited to participate in this training activity. More than 1,000 students and parents participated in this spring training seminar, including government-funded senior visiting scholars from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, as well as self-funded overseas students from the International College of GDUFS. In addition, over 200 personnel from different universities participated in the long-distance pre-training, including: Jiangxi Normal University, Fujian Normal University and Hubei University. Special lectures on the dispatch procedures of studying abroad and on national conditions, such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea were also given. The pre-trip training for North America had been completed in November 2016. This batch of self-funded overseas students have already successfully traveled to the US and Canada to start their overseas study.
The training lasted for one day. Through on-site interaction, consultation, simulated live exhibition and other forms of training, the trainers promoted the concept of “studying abroad with safety, civility, health and success”. This training effectively helped overseas personnel to acquire the necessary knowledge for studying and living abroad, improve security awareness, and achieve the goal of studying safely and successfully.
