The Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Spring Advanced English Training Program for Government-Supported Visiting Scholars Held by the Center for Foreign Language Training

On March 4, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.,the Center for Foreign Language Training of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) held the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Spring Advanced English Training Program for Government-Funded Visiting Scholars in the trainee Activity Room on the 2nd floor of the International College. Attendees included Dean Wei Huiliang of International College and the Center for Foreign Language Training, Director Wang Yongqi of Teaching and Research Department and teacher Zhang Haiqiang of the Center for Foreign Language Training.

At the meeting, Dean Wei Huiliang delivered a welcoming speech to the trainees. He stressed that English learning cannot be done overnight. He hoped that the trainees could devote themselves to learning without distractions. The trainees should use what they know, fill in the gaps in their knowledge, and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in learning to assist their study and research after dispatch. Next, Director Wang Yongqi briefed the trainees about GDUFS and the Center. He explained relevant training curriculum and requirements for the trainees. He wished the trainees success in their study and examinations.

Before the Opening Ceremony, the trainees took the entrance exam. After the exam, the Center organized a training seminar for trainees with weak foundations. The meeting was chaired by Director Wang Yongqi, in which Zhang Haiqiang attended. First, Director Wang briefly analyzed the entrance exam, explained the training requirements, expressed his hope for the trainees to correctly recognize their shortcomings, and made clear the direction that the trainees need to strive for. Zhang Haiqiang put forward that language learning should not be separated into listening, speaking, reading and writing but instead linked together. He also pointed out that trainees with weak foundation should devote more time than other trainees, pay more attention to words, grammar and learning methods, and communicate more with the teachers. At the meeting, trainees discussed with the teachers and expressed their trust in the Center that they could be dispatched for visits smoothly through their efforts.
