About the University

Founded in 1844, State University of New York at Albany is one of the oldest universities in the United States and one of the most comprehensive and strongest public universities in the northeast of United States. It is a class-A national university in the United States and one of the top four famous branches of the State University of New York. It is ranked 140th in the 2019 American University Rankings and 70th in American Public University Rankings.

The university offers 120 undergraduate majors and minor subjects and more than 125 postgraduate programs. Many of its majors are ranked top 50 by U.S. News & World Report, including clinical psychology, economics, criminal justice, library and information studies, public affairs, public health, sociology and social work. As home to teachers and students from 48 states and 96 countries with different perspectives and life experiences, it can provide a diverse environment for students.

■ About the City Where the University Is Located

Located in Albany, the capital city of New York, the university has convenient transportation. It is three hours’ drive to Boston, three hours’ drive to New York, four hours’ drive to Montreal and only 15 minutes’ drive to the Albany International Airport. In addition, the area is a vibrant cultural and entertainment center. The university is close to the New York State Museum, the New York State Library and the Times Union Center. The Berkshires, Catskill Mountains, Saratoga and Adirondack Mountains are also in its proximity.
